Departing for Nuuk, Greenland!
And so it begins!
To get too Nuuk, we’ll be leaving from Denver International Airport on Sunday, May third at around five thirty in the afternoon, and first flying to Keflavík International Airport (Keflavíkurflugvöllur), arriving at six thirty the following morning.
This leg of the trip is going to be a long flight in small seats!
After this really long flight, we don’t have a simple gate change. Not even a simple concourse change… We’ve got to change airports!
While Keflavík International Airport is the largest airport in Iceland and the country’s main hub for international transportation, the smaller domestic flights are handled by the Reykjavík Airport which is located about 31 miles (50 km) north-east of Keflavík.
This means that we’ll have to jump onto the “flybus” for the forty-five minute trip to the Reykjavík Airport for the flight leaving for Nuuk at 12:30! This will be our first language barrier test!
Our first stop will be the BSÍ Bus Terminal. Transfers are available to all major hotels, the Youth Hostel, Laugardalur camping area and the domestic airport. For these transfers the driver will ask us to board smaller buses, presenting us with language barrier test number two!
Once we get to Reykjavík Airport we’ll be ready for our next flight, from Reykjavík to Nuuk.
